Before you write anything in LyX, and after having installed all the required packages (see Chapter 3), you should reconfigure LyX to let it take into account
all this software. Just do Edit-->Reconfigure. Check the output of this command (if you did not put LyX in the background, you should see it in the x terminal you started LyX in). You should see
among others:
+checking for docbook class docbook-algo... yes
+checking for docbook class docbook-book... yes
+checking for docbook class docbook-chapter... yes
+checking for docbook class docbook... yes
+checking for docbook class docbook-section... yes

If you don't, you miss the docbook DSSSL stylesheets (see Section 3.2) or something else went wrong. Don't continue before you fix this.
