Hi, I just started the HTML tutorial having absolutely no previous HTML experience less putting links on myspace some 6 or 7 years ago. So I am on a mac and using TextEdit and Firefox/Safari. On both browsers when I open the first HTML document (I think the first time you create an .htm document is actually lesson 4) it shows up exactly as I typed it in TextEdit. No heading or body, simply the html code exactly as I typed it. I copied it directly as I have it written at the bottom of this message. Is there a certain setting that I need to set my browser to in order for it to read the documents? What am I doing wrong? I am looking forward to learning everything I can in these tutorials but am somewhat discouraged by my lack of being able to get past the first HTML lesson...

Here is my document saved as "HTML Page 1.htm" And the following is exactly how it looks in the browser. ...help?

Jc.

<p>Hurrah! This is my first website.</p>

Using notepad sometimes I save .htm or .html files thinking I have really saved them as HTML file, but to say it retains the ".txt" extension, good thing you can see the icon and what I have saved is an actual text file rather than an "internet browser" file.
