Hi all,

I would like to translate PhPNuke English version to Lao language. Was wondering whether there are tools out there or can anyone point me to docs, if there are any? Perhaps someone can help me with issues like UNICODE and etc..

Thanks,

Laonux

Welcome laonux!

Your nickname resembles "linux" - is it a coincidence? If you feel well with linux, the best way to do the translation would be to install the LyX editor ( http://www.lyx.org ). I still use an old version (1.2.0) of it, but you could try the newest one and we see if my scripts still work. Wink

The process is: you take the LYX version of the book, you do the translation in LyX, then my scripts transform it to SGML, correct the SGML that comes out of LyX, then produce all other versions.

The advantage of this method is that you only need to translate the words, leaving everything else (like "environments", SGML tags etc) untouched. This way paragraphs, admonitions (warnings, notes etc), callouts (those small numbers in circles that you see in some code), code environments etc., all remain intact - and you don't need to recreate them.

I don't know how LyX handles Unicode - I hope you try and tell me! Smile

Chris,

Thanks for your pointers. No. There is no coincidence about my screen name, it's taken from Lao Linux. I am the author of localized lao version of Linux ofr KDE. Http://laonux.muanglao.com So that is how Laonux come about.

So what are telling about translate PhPNuke into is just a straight forward steps: dowload latest PhPNuke, use Lyn to edit and translate each module to Lao (I assume it's the message part that need to be translated). So I have to worry about the format of Lao font (it must be UNICODE or in UTF-Cool. Ok. Let me dig around and again thanks.

Oops, I misunderstood your question laonux, sorry! You asked how to translate PHP-Nuke to Lao, but I understood "how to translate PHP-Nuke HOWTO to Lao"! You see, there is also a HOWTO that I maintain here:

http://www.karakas-online.de/EN-Book/

and the various formats of it (including the LyX version) are found in:

http://www.karakas-online.de/EN-Book/formats.html

But you asked about PHP-Nuke, not PHP-Nuke HOWTO! This is very easy to translate:

Download PHP-Nuke. Extract the files somewhere. Search for a folder called "language". In that folder, you will find files called lang-xxx.php, i.e. lang-english.php, lang-french.php, lang-german.php etc. There is obviously no lang-lao.php. Take lang-english.php and copy it to lang-lao.php. It is a simple plain text file. Just edit it with your favourite text editor. Translate the english words there in lao. That's all!

Send the file to Francisco Burzi of phpnuke.org, the author of PHP-Nuke, so that he can include it in the next release.

You don't need LyX for the above procedure. You need LyX only if you also wish to translate the PHP-Nuke HOWTO - which you are welcome to do, of course! Wink

Hi rruter

Thanks for that Information. I didnt know a handy program like that exists. This is a very useful program. I checked the file already and it is really good. It is another way to organize your translation.

Wink Thanks.

In our new system we have lots of languages ready to use. Please try Xtreme V5 phpnuke 8.1 035 patched. I made lots of ours and many mods included. I think u wont find a complete system like this on internet. Administration Control Panel is a piece of cake for Administrators. It can give u the details what users are looking for and much more. U dont need to pay any coin for the system. It is completly free. Wink

Download it now
